2022 - A Fresh Start

This is not a "New Year, New Me" kind of post - I am not that person. This is more a "get the shit you've been promising yourself you'd do done" type of post.

This is not my first blog. My last one is still running, but not for long. I got very complacent, fell very behind on it's upkeep and my writing, an frankly my design skills are non-existent. This means that trying to do Wordpress was probably never going to work out well for me. I've been meaning to trim the fat and ditch it for a long while - well, not ditch it quite, but adjust it to something a bit more static, something that requires almost no work from me but to click "Publish". My original idea was to use Medium, and I may still do that (but probably for a very different project), but it wasn't right for what I was after. then I noticed Listed, and thought "Well now, doesn't that just suit me down to the ground. I can publish straight from where I collect my thoughts. You may want to get on that." And so, several month later, here I am, doing just that.

I will be grabbing the stuff from my old site and publishing here as well, so I can keep track of everything. Some of it may be worth reading, other bits might be pure shite. But that's the nature of blogs, and developing writing - it's not all going to be a polished classic novel. Most of the old stuff is either InfoSec-focused, bits of fiction, opinion and ranting, and cigar commentary. I don't suppose that much of the content will change, although I may publish more of my "in development" works, be they stories or other fiction, or philosophical musings, or other such concepts that haven't quite fully brewed.

Just writing this has helped me make a few other "get your shit in gear" decisions - I have a few projects in their initial stages, and I think the content for them might well be better on Medium than here (for a variety of reasons).

So yes, this will be a bit of a mish-mash of a lot of things, mostly half-baked, but occasionally there may be something that resembles a loaf. I'll leave you to muse on that, and a short piece on my top cigars of 2021, while I go enjoy an Old Fashioned.
