FFIX Remake: What would I like to see?

Ok, so it seems that a Final Fantasy IX Remake might well be in the making - one of the most favoured games among the franchises' fans, and indeed, Hironobu Sakaguchi's personal favourite. It was my introduction to the popular series, and has remained a favourite of mine for decades now. What would I want to see in a remake to bring it up to date?

Story: I don't think you'd need to make the same sort of story tweaks as we saw in FFVII - there's enough story, some bits just need fleshing out a little: make a bit more of what Zidane's role was supposed to be; give more background to Madain Sari's summoners were up to; explore a bit more of Terran culture before their fall as opposed to just a few short hints from a wall in Oeilvert.

Characters: Another thing would be to increase time with different people - see and play more of Dagger and Steiner's journey after leaving Zidane et al. in Lindblum; fight all 4 Temple

Guardians; flesh out the Festival of the Hunt, and choose who you play (or play as all 3 even?) - plenty of scope to tease out more interesting gameplay. This could also be a good way to explore character development and histories as well.

ATE's: I would perhaps integrate some of these with the Mognet system, as messages you have to interact with, while also using it as a way to change the character perspective for other moments.

Mini-games: Keep them. All of them. Maybe tweak the frog catching a little (shorter respawn time/ 25 normal frogs per swamp perhaps).

Trance: this is one aspect that I really do think needs an overhaul - one thing that really bugs me is that you have no control over Trance at all except to use the commands. Being able to choose when to use it, or even control the growth of the Trance bar (perhaps even something live FFX's Overdrive system might work here?). As it stands, it's just mostly wasted and near useless. Perhaps a bit more variation in effects as well.

Graphics: By all means, make everything nice and glossy and shiny and new - but I don't think we need much in the way of redesign for characters at all. There's no need to strive for the same sort of realism that we see everywhere else: part of the point is the fantastical nature of everything.

Battle system: I kinda enjoy the ATB system for the most part - but there is a glaring issue should they keep it, which is the time it takes to get in and out of the battle. This is a huge problem when under a time constraint, or when you are speed-running - or chasing Excaliber II. I'd actually be happy with a more open-world, FFXII-like approach to some degree, while maintaining control of all 4  party members.

World: Honestly I think it just needs expanding a little. The original was constrained in several ways (console, disc space) that a remake wouldn't be. There's so many different cities, towns, and villages to explore, all of which with their own cultures, just increasing their size would do wonders. Plus, does anyone think that the whole of Burmecia is just one city? Where are the airship dock and ship port for everyone's favourite Library?
